The objective of this moderately strenuous trek is to reach the base camp for climbers of Makalu, the world’s fifth highest peak. Five miles away from the nearest village, it is one of the most spectacular and remote parts of Nepal. It is directly beneath Makalu and includes access to a magnificent and unusual view of Mt. Everest and Lhotse. The trek starts with a flight to Tumlingtar and passes through many ethnic Rai, Limbu and Newar settlements. En route to the base camp we trek through a lush green valley in the banks of Arun River, that flows from Tibet to Ganges via the terrains of Nepa. At Num we start to climb into the world of the Sherpas. Crossing historic Shipton pass brings us to the Barun River and the Makalu base camp. A flight from Tumlingtar to Kathmandu concludes the trip.
