Dhulikhel Namobuddha Trek

According to the Buddhist legend, Namo Buddha is the place where the Buddha offered his body to a starving tigress so she could feed her cubs. His reliquary stupa remained underground for centuries. Namo Buddha is a sacred place for Buddhists and many pilgrims come to both the stupa and the monastery nearby especially on Saturdays.
Panauti is a small historical city just 36 km east of Kathmandu. The confluence of the Roshi Khola and Pungamati Khola rivers is just outside the town. Here you will find many temples and other monuments.
There is a saying that, the entire town is abuilt on a single piece of solid stone, making it protected to earthquake.
This walk/trek can be made all year round. From Balthali it is possible to make one of more day-hikes further into the Mahabharat range. Although close to Kathmandu the area and villages south of Balthali are rarely visited by tourists.
