The price varied from using the well facilitate hotels like Mountain Yeti home, Everest View hotel, and normal tea houses. In the normal tea houses, the room separated by the thin wooden boards the insider-outsider temperatures are somehow related. Sometimes you will not get a blanket to cover your body at night in this case you have to already confirm with your company or guide and they will manage.

Shower on Trek

Things get more costly gradually ascending higher. You have to pay for hot showers and the average cost for hot showers will be 5 USD per person really a worthy experience in the mountains. If the trekkers plan their trip early in March the water gets frozen in the pipes and there is only the alternative to bucket shower, boiling hot water put in the pale and poured on your body by dipper but it may be faster cold in Gorakshep because of the extreme frozen. So, in such places, we suggest you keep wet tissues for a dry shower and better pack sanitizer for washing hands in the shortage of water or soap on the spot.

Charging – There you cannot be provided the charging plugs in your rooms, only the lights are settings in most tea houses. For the charging of your electric accessories, you need to pay an extra 2 $ per item for more than the hours normally charged at the dining.

The dining in the tea houses usually is the spacy hall putting the fire woven in the center using woods or Yak dung to burn and make the hall warm. There you can eat and relax and chat with other travelers sharing any knowledge and experiences. Most of the tea houses have Western-type toilets but it is better to take your own toilet paper and tissues.

Foods during the Trek

The tea houses sell varieties of meals in local and western cuisine in the menu bar you have the choice of your food. Normally in the stayed tea house, you will eat your breakfast and dinner while lunch should take you on your way to your next destination.

Moreover, Tibetan bread, Chapatti, Toast with honey or Jam French toast, Porridges with milk, Pancakes, and boiled or fried eggs are some common breakfast items in the Everest region trek. The available options of foods on the tea houses menu are Thukpa (noodle soup), Sherpa stew Dumplings, different kinds of soups, Spaghetti, boiled potatoes, Pizza, Sandwiches, Yak steak, Rice with curry, Fried Rice, Burger with chips, Spring Rolls. Indeed, Dalbhat is the Nepali traditional food and easily appetite as many people prefer to eat this food item during the trek which guides and porters always eat. If you choose Dalbhat for your lunch or dinner you will get refilled lentil soup and curries if they forget you can just ask.

Flights from Manthali to Lukla at the beginning of the Everest Base Camp Trek

This is the easiest way to resume the trek flight from Manthali to Lukla but somehow this day is quite rushed. On this day you need to wake up early and take the 3 hours drive to Manthali airport in Ramechhap then take the flight to Tenzing Hillary airport at Lukla. Hence, there are only 3 airlines that operate their flight with the small airplane to Tenzing Hillary airstrip, they are Tara air, Sita air, and Summit air, the cost will be included in your tour package, if you purchase it costs 180 $ for a one-way by the year of 2022 but it may be costly with the higher price in fuel internationally. The flight might be affected due to weather conditions in Lukla. Furthermore, you are only allowed to take luggage for 10 Kg if more than you need to pay extra, so it is better to store in Kathmandu unnecessary things for the trek as the company will help to store your stuff.

The Lukla airport is taken as the most challenging and dangerous airport in the world it constructed a narrow and short runway. Similarly, the explorer's joy with the changeable landscape of the hilly region connected with the Himalayan province with a breathtaking mountain flight to Lukla from Manthali. .

Trekking Permits to Everest Base Camp

In the previous days, there were 2 permits that should be taken for this EBC trek TIMS card and Sagarmatha National Park permit. Same as both permits should be registered at the checkpoints but nowadays only the Pasang Lhamu rural municipality permit and National Park permits should register at the checkpoint and the TIMS card does not exist anymore.

Permit Fees – Local permit fees NPR 2000 (20 USD) in Lukla and Sagarmatha National Park fees NPR 3000 (30 USD) are provided from the office of the National park at Monjo or you can purchase them from the Department of National Park and Wildlife Conservation (DNPWC) counter office located at Bhrikuti Mandap in Kathmandu.

Is Tims Card Necessary for trekking to Everest Base Camp?

Previously a TIMS (Trekker's Information Management System) card was mandatory for the Everest region trek. But nowadays it is no longer necessary for the EBC trek as the TIMS card has been replaced by the Pasang Lhamu rural municipality permit. TIMS is required for trekking to Annapurna Base Camp, Annapurna Circuit Trek, Langtang region trek, and many more, but if you start your trek through Jiri or Salleri to Lukla TIMS may need because all local government follows their own system.

Hiking to Lukla Salleri or Jiri

Taking a flight to Lukla is quite expensive and sometimes people feel scared, so, they choose an alternative way to Everest Base Camp via road trip to Salleri or Jiri then start their hiking to Lukla. It is also the possibility to cancelation flights because of the unknown mountain changeable weather at Lukla, if the flights delay or canceled trekkers need to stay more nights at Lukla or Kathmandu, sometimes even they need to fly by helicopter from Kathmandu to Lukla which is most expensive otherwise they need to choose the other trekking routes. For the road trip, you need to take a Jeep to either Salleri or to Jiri which is 265 meters far from Kathmandu. It will take approximately 9 hours and may charge 15 USD for the bus and 20 USD for Jeeps as daily departed from Kathmandu. It will take 2-3 days to reach Lukla from Salleri.

Similarly, taking a bus to Jiri for about 10 hours is another alternative to EBC as the trail passing through the Salleri- Ringmo –  Khari Khola - Painyu - Phakding – Namche Bazaar, there is extra four days of trekking to connect with the main route without touching the trail to Lukla. This is the best alternative way to suit real adventure lovers.

Difficulties of EBC Trek

Normally EBC trek is taken as easy to moderate, the way is not that steep but lies at the highest point so, cannot walk faster. The trek demand at least two days of acclimatization at Namche and Dingboche for adjusting your body to the high altitude. Every day requires to walk 4 – 6 hours for 12 days but before planning your trip to base camp one needs to do an hour walk and some cardio exercises. It won't be needed any technical climbing skills but your unbalance may get altitude sickness, so there should be smooth walking along the way and required enough rest on the way. Normally, explores necessary to walk around 15 kilometers per day as the way is ascending and descending in the mountains. It is not a matter of walking but the altitude matter for acute mountain sickness whether the trekking starts at 3000 m, and the ultimate destination is 5364 m to EBC. Undoubtedly, require well physical fitness for hiking but the difficulty of Everest Base Camp is measured by the walking speed if the weather is not good and if you are suffering from cold then the journey definitely gets harder.

The hike can do any time in the year, just the scenery and the walking might be tough in the winter and the views can be closed in the summer season sometimes the trip should cancel by heavy snowfall in the winter. Moreover, people extend their opinion about the beauty of the majestic mountains province regarding its seasonal beauty. Hence, in the coming section, it will be highlighted the trekking in Nepal at different times including the Everest region treks, such as spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Spring and autumn are the most recommended seasons to hike Everest Base Camp, simultaneously trekking in Nepal.

• EBC Trek during Spring Season (March, April, May)

The Spring season is the best time for trekking in Nepal connected with Everest Base Camp which is the most convenient time to hike in the mountains throughout the year. This time brings pleasantness for trekking to the Everest region after the chilly winter season in Nepal. The climate will be moderate and the days are sunny as well as warm although the night gets colder You need to wear warm clothes like down jackets, trousers, and hiking boots needed. Same as the wildflowers in the mountains that flourished in the blossom of Mother Nature get ornamented with the colorful Himalayas. It is definitely a fantastic experience beholding the combination of the White Mountains and the clear blue sky mixed with the rhododendron and magnolia blooming in the backdrop forest of stunning mountains.

• EBC Trek during Summer Season (June, July, and August)

In the summer season, it will be raining frequently day and night as it is not a suitable time for trekking in Nepal. Most of the days get rain and the mountains are closed because of the clouds, so, the view cannot catch your eyes and camera.  Similarly, the trail gets slippery and have a chance of floods and landslide. It is because of the bad weather the flight to Lukla may also unknown. So, the people are not recommending the trek to EBC in the monsoon due to foggy weather and the high possibility of flight cancellation or delay. Indeed, the rainfall in the mountains gets less but the scenery cannot view clearly like in the spring and autumn seasons. The trek can be optimized if anyone has a flexible time period so they can experience the wonderful experience then it is in the other seasons.

Furthermore, trekkers who have enough time to stay in Nepal and love the peaceful and no more crowded will have the best choice for observing the natural beauty and convenient tea house accommodations. Meanwhile, during the summertime swiping all clouds over mountains the scenery will be stunning and make you feel like you are in paradise but the rain may resist the way so, need to plan this trip with a flexible schedule.

• EBC Trek during Autumn  ( September, October, and November)

Autumn is the perfect season for trekking in Nepal up to Everest Base Camp. However, the trekking route is crowded because of the trekkers who are set on their trip to visit EBC.

• EBC Trek during Winter Season (December, January, and February)

Some agencies send the guide with you and some manage their guide in Lukla as in this case you have to pay the flight expenses of guide round flight of Kathmandu Lukla, everything included in the trekking package, one has not to pay for the foods and accommodations for guide and porter. We recommend that trekkers meet their guide before to proceed the trekking trip to check if the guide occupies enough knowledge about the trail and speaks well English so that, can have good communication and get more knowledge about the sites.

- Make sure that you are guided by a government license registered guide

- The guide should do insurance for himself

Insurance Requirement for Everest Base Camp Trek

No one knows the unforeseen incidents while they are traveling on the challenging trek. Trekking in the high elevations in remote locations, obviously there might be chances of risks, so, insurance is mandatory in any higher altitude trekking sites as it is very common and there are not any roads in the mountainous regions in Nepal so, if you get any unknown accidents or get altitude sickness travelers to need to evacuate by helicopter which is more costly. Normally meats are carried by the porters and not refrigerated, so better try to become vegetarian during the trek. Another fact to get stomach problems is drinking water so, filter the water as the easy way to take a life straw bottle, buying plastic bottles is not environmentally friendly, and lost extra money too.

Get rid of Altitude Sickness (AMS) during the trek.

In higher elevations altitude sickness is common for all and may cause by ascending too quickly, so, take the climb smoothly to prevent AMS. It will be more comfortable if trekkers do the acclimatized trek around the lowland like Annapurna Base Camp, Langtang, or Mardi Himal Trek.  Following are the methods to get rid of altitude sickness.

Hydration – Drink enough water and make the body hydrated.

Hiking Pace – walk smoothly, neither faster nor slower.

Medicine - Normally people take Diamox at a high elevation where the air pressure gets low and the availability of less oxygen, in this case, Diamox can prevent altitude sickness by acting as a respiratory motivator.
